Shilpa Shetty Goregeous Actress Profile -Biography

Shilpa Shetty is on of the leading actress in India and model of the world.

She was born on 8 June 1975 in a traditional close-knit family in Mangalore that hails from the Bunt community. She is the eldest daughter of Surendra and Sunanda Shetty, manufacturers of tamper-proof caps for the pharmaceutical industry, and her native language is Tulu although she speaks several other languages at differing levels, including English, Kannada, Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Urdu and basic French. In Mumbai, she attended St. Anthony Girls’ High School in Chembur, and later attended Podar College in Matunga. In school, she was the captain of the volleyball team.

Shilpa Shetty is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and also has a black belt in Karate.

Shilpa Shetty was hardly 16 years old when she entered the world of modeling, with Limca providing her one of the first assignments. Two years after this, she was seen in the first movie of her career, ‘Baazigar’ (1993). The film proved to be a box office success and earned her the nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. The 1994 movie ‘Aag’ served as Shetty’s launch pad, as a leading actress. A moderate success, it was followed by the successful film ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’.

Since then it was no looking back for this gorgeous actress. She can today be rated as one of the top actress in the Bollywood film industry. In 2000 Shilpa won the IIFA (International Indian Film Awards) award for the Best Actress. In 2004 Shilpa earned lot of praise and received great reviews for the role of an HIV positive victim Tammana in the movie? Phir Milenge? Opposite Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

Her appearance on “Celebrity Big Brother” (2001) caused a huge racism and bullying row. As several house mates didnt approve her presence, they made fun of her accent, cooking and her native country. Following these incidents, broadcasting network Channel 4 received over a record-breaking 40,000 complaints and the controversy developed to a diplomatic crisis between the UK and India. Even Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chanchellor Gordon Brown, while visiting India, condemned these acts of unfairness and intolerance (January 2007).

She was also seen in ‘Aao Pyar Karen’. The year 1995 saw Shetty starring in ‘Hathkadi’, alongside Saif Ali Khan, Govinda and Madhoo. The following year, ‘Chhote Sarkar’, ‘Himmat’ and ‘Sahasa Veerudu Sagara Kanya’ (Telugu) were the films in which she played the female lead. 1997 proved to be one of the busiest years in the life of Shilpa Shetty. She was seen in as many as six films, starting with Telugu film ‘Veedeva Dani Babu’. Apart from that, there was another film ‘Dus’ that got shelved.

Shetty is a long-time PETA supporter and has assisted the campaign by posing for photographs in a figure-hugging tiger costume and Anti-AIDS Campaign.

As well as modeling and acting, Shetty has associated herself with several other commercial and non-profit organizations.

Shetty’s younger sister Shamita Shetty is also an actress in Bollywood. They worked together once in the film Fareb.

Shilpa married Raj Kundra on 22 November 2009.
