Yes, BSNL (india's largest and No1 conference calling company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has partnered with HCL Infosystems to bundle a desk-top personal computer with a broadband connection for Rs 399 (6.5 dollars) a month targeted at the rural users.
Subscribers will have to pay an upfront fee of Rs 2,250 for acquiring the PC. The scheme is being supported by the Universal Services Obligation Fund under the Department of Telecom, which will give BSNL a subsidy of Rs 4,500 for a connection.
This project will definetly boost the usage of broadband in rural india. Especially rural farmers, students who have no school and no proper library facility can use the wonderful offer just paying Rs. 400/- or otherwise they can share 1 pc to utilize more and earn more knowledge..
The project is estimated to utilise a total of Rs 1,500 crore from the fund. Subscribers will get a software package developed by Microsoft and a five-year free maintenance from HCL.
